ZArchiver: frequently asked questions

Everything below reflects the publicly listed behavior of the official app. If something changes in a future release, the Play Store changelog is the authoritative source.

Is ZArchiver free to use?

Yes. ZArchiver is free to download and use, with no mandatory subscription. The developer, ZDevs, offers optional in-app extras, but the core archive creation and extraction tools are free.

What archive formats does ZArchiver open?

ZArchiver can open and extract common formats including ZIP, RAR, RAR5, 7Z, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, ISO, CAB, ARJ, LZH, and several less common formats such as CHM, DMG, and CPIO. It can create ZIP, 7Z, TAR, GZIP, BZIP2, XZ, LZ4, and ZST archives.

Does ZArchiver need an internet connection?

No. Archive extraction and compression happen entirely on your device, so ZArchiver does not need network access to do its job.

Can ZArchiver open password-protected archives?

Yes, as long as you know the password. ZArchiver prompts for a password when it detects an encrypted archive and can also create new password-protected ZIP and 7Z files.

Where should I download ZArchiver from?

The safest source is the official Google Play listing, since it guarantees the package has not been altered. This site links directly to that listing rather than hosting a separate copy of the app.

Why can't ZArchiver extract my RAR5 file?

Very old builds of ZArchiver predate RAR5 support. Updating to the current version from Google Play resolves most RAR5 extraction failures.
